The 2020 mayoral election for New York used the ranked voting system. This marks the first time a major city has decided to use the city in an election. Unfortunately, this attempt was not as successful as some proponents had hoped. Yesterday, the NYC Board of Elections announced that the preliminary results of the election they had announced were incorrect, causing widespread confusion. The error was due to the failure to remove 135,000 test ballots from the results. This was an especially blatant error within the ranked voting system, as the amount of votes each candidate gets are what allow them to move up into the different stages of the election. The Board assured the public that they would fix the error, and get up to date results ASAP
