There is an increased turnout of young voters this year. In the Presidential Election last November, members of Generation Z turned out in record numbers. This increased engagement is set to continue in the Georgia senate runoff elections on January 5th. These elections are very significant, as they will determine whether Republicans or Democrats have control of the Senate. Young voters are taking advantage of this momentous occasion to make their voices heard, as 281,000 voters under 30 have already cast their ballots. This is especially impressive considering that young people have traditionally demonstrated a low level of voter turnout. The amount of young people registered to vote, and voting, is the result of years of effort from statewide organizations such as New Georgia Project. The New Georgia Project is known for raising awareness about voter registration through nontraditional means, such as hosting events with famous streamers, bringing food trucks to registration sites, and targeting ads to apps young people use such as Spotify. Others are encouraging young people to vote as well, such as influencers like Mona Swain on TikTok. The combined efforts of celebrities and organizations alike has caused a significant swell in voter turnout in young people. Nsé Ufot, the head of the New Georgia Project, said in response to the change in voter turnout that was a huge factor in Biden getting elected, “What happened in November was not a fluke...It is absolutely possible that Georgia voters can do it again, that young people in Georgia can do it again,”
