As he is preparing to enter office, Joe Biden is assembling his Presidential Cabinet and several other key positions. His cabinet and representative choices are shaping up to be one of the most diverse groups in history. It is made up of many women and people of color. The following people listed are a few of the Biden Administration’s most notable choices.

  • Deb Haaland: A congresswoman for New Mexico, Haaland will be the first Native American cabinet member when she takes her post as the Secretary of the Interior.  Haaland is a member of the Laguna Pueblo, a group of 567 sovereign tribal nations located across 35 states, and one of the most senior Native American members of Congress. She will be in charge of managing land and natural resources for the country under the Biden Administration. Her work will include making sure that the government honors treaties it’s bound to from Native American tribes across the United States.

  • Marcia Fudge: Fudge, a member of the House Agriculture Committee, will be the African American woman to serve as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. She was backed to gain the position from many high ranking congressional officials, such as James Clyburn and Sen. Sherrod Brown. Fudge will be facing many challenges in her position, such as formulating the Biden administration’s response to the housing crisis that has become a side effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Katherine Tai: House Ways and Means Committee trade lawyer Katherine Tai will become the next U.S. Trade Representative. She will be in charge of maintaining and repairing U.S. relationships with foreign countries over trade agreements. She will be the first woman of color and the first Asian American to hold this position.

  • Pete Buttigieg: former mayor of South Bend, Indiana and a major competitor in the race to be the Democratic nominee for President, Pete Buttigieg has been assigned to be the next Secretary of Transportation. Buttigieg will be the first LGBTQ+ secretary when he enters his post. In the past, Buttigieg has stressed the importance of building up America’s infrastructure. That will be one of the main facets of Buttigieg’s new job.
